This landscape renovation was driven by the needs of a growing family. Gardening, entertaining and play areas have been organized seperately but are knitted together with the use of plant material and repetition of hardscape materials. The existing patio has been expanded for entertaining. Block seatwalls were added at the perimeter for additional seating and visual separation; they terminate with monument boulders for a rugged, natural look. Pergolas and a garden gate were constructed by a carpenter after these photos were taken to define use areas and create outdoor rooms. A Koi pond and basalt pondless fountain highlight the rear garden and entry garden respectively.

The landscape modification plan was generated after interviewing the owners about their outdoor space and how they intended on using it.

The postage stamp front lawn was eliminated for water savings and reduced maintenance costs. Much of the existing plant material was salvaged for transplanting into the new design scheme.

This is the beautiful new entry highlighted by a "pondless" drilled Basalt Spire. The dry stream bed adds natural appeal and functions in draining rainwater from the property. The seat wall helps define the space and provides a bench for visitors.

The backyard lawn area was reduced in size but is still large enough for a game of catch or for chipping golf balls. Adjacent to the patio, the lawn also provides for overflow entertaining area for infrequent, large gatherings.

This is looking towards the back yard. Existing pavers were matched for patio expansion.

A raised garden was created in this sunny, out of the way spot. Country Manor block walls define the garden and were also used to construct the seat walls. Note the intersecting circles that create the curvelinear shape of the garden which emulates the patio design. The garden is automatically watered with its own irrigation valve.

A koi pond with falls is the center of interest in the rear garden area and is visible and audible from almost everywhere in the back yard.

This secluded patio was added adjacent to the master bedroom and is screened from neighbors and the main patio with plant material and a garden arbor.

The play area is defined and separate from the main patio area but is still in view for supervision and safety.
